Date & Tamarind Chutney – An easy curry base

An easy peasy recipe for a Date & Tamarind Chutney that you can use as a base for all your favourite curry cooking!

You can use this as a base for my slow cooked lamb curry or an easy peasy stove top chicken curry.


What you need

1 cup of pitted dates roughly chopped(I used medjool)

1 cup of tamarind puree (I used this brand)

2 cups of water

2 teaspoons of cumin powder

2 teaspoons of ginger powder

2 teaspoons of dry coriander leaves

2 teaspoons of sea salt

What to do

Combine all ingredients together in a small pot and bring to the boil, reduce heat & allow to simmer until the mixture is nice and thick stirring occassionally.

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for a few weeks.
